چکیده

Liriomyza sativae Blanchard and trifolii (Burgess) are two highly polyphagous pests that successively invaded China in the 1990s 2000s, respectively, threatening vegetable horticultural plants. Competitive displacement of L. by occurred during expansion process latter southern China, while whether can expand their range to northern remains unclear. Overwintering cold tolerance capacity largely determine species distribution affect through overwintering phenology. In this study, we compared potential, supercooling point (SCP) between these leafminer species. Our results showed overwinter at higher altitudes than sativae. addition, found they both successfully greenhouses was Moreover, extreme low-temperature survival significantly sativae, SCP former lower latter. We thus conclude is much better findings indicate has potential displace its China. our have important implications for predicting ranges developing management strategies invasive leafminers

Variation in Morphological Characters of Two Invasive Leafminers, Liriomyza huidobrensis and L. sativae, across a Tropical Elevation Gradient

Changes in morphological traits along elevation and latitudinal gradients in ectotherms are often interpreted in terms of the temperature-size rule, which states that the body size of organisms increases under low temperatures, and is therefore expected to increase with elevation and latitude. However other factors like host plant might contribute to spatial patterns in size as well, particular...

Species displacements are common to two invasive species of leafminer fly in China, Japan, and the United States.

Under field conditions, species displacements have occurred in different directions between the same invasive species of leafminers (Diptera: Agromyzidae). Liriomyza sativae (Blanchard) was displaced by L. trifolii (Burgess) in the western United States, with evidence suggesting that lower insecticide susceptibility of L. trifolii is a factor. However, in Japan, the opposite has occurred, as L....

Insecticide-Mediated Apparent Displacement between Two Invasive Species of Leafminer Fly

BACKGROUND Closely related invasive species may often displace one another, but it is often difficult to determine mechanisms because of the historical nature of these events. The leafmining flies Liriomyza sativae and Liriomyza trifolii have become serious invasive agricultural pests throughout the world. Where both species have invaded the same region, one predominates over the other. Althoug...

Cold Hardiness and Supercooling Capacity in the Overwintering Larvae of the Codling Moth, Cydia pomonella

The codling moth, Cydia pomonella L. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), a worldwide apple pest, is classified as a freeze-intolerant organism and one of the most cold-tolerant pests. The objectives of this study were to examine the supercooling point of overwintering and non-diapausing larvae of C. pomonella as an index of its cold hardiness, and to assess larval mortality following 24 h exposure to e...

Cloning and expression of genes encoding heat shock proteins in Liriomyza trifolii and comparison with two congener leafminer species

The polyphagous agromyzid fly, Liriomyza trifolii, is a significant and important insect pest of ornamental and vegetable crops worldwide. The adaptation of insects to different environments is facilitated by heat shock proteins (HSPs), which play an important role in acclimation to thermal stress. In this study, we cloned and characterized five HSP-encoding genes of L. trifolii (Lthsp20, Lthsp...
